I did EKG and the result is normal, but I still think I have heart disease, is that OKAY to ask my physician to refer me to a cardiologist?

you have every right to a second opinion, and alot of doctors actually encourage it if you ask…. so it’s your body and your right. only you know your body and if it gives you peace of mind do what you must! hope this helps

You can ask, but you might want to check your coverage, as lilginny suggests. I’d also talk to your physician first. Tell him why you think you have heart disease, and review the tests and procedures that he used to rule out heart disease. Unless you have a background in medicine, or you’re showing signs and symptoms that you’re not telling the doctor about, I’d be inclined to trust his opinion.

Self-diagnosis, or even diagnosis of family members is a dangerous thing. I know of a doctor who lost a son to cancer because he diagnosed a rampaging multi-organ malignancy in his own son as “probably just an ulcer”.

it is ok to want to see a cardiologist, but without a verifiable reason (proven through medical records) your insurance company may not cover your visit
